Over the next few weeks, I will be preaching a new sermon series in Ezra entitled “All Things New.” Ezra is written to tell the story of God’s renewal of His people. Even after their continual rebellion and idolatry had led to His discipline in what is known as the “Babylonian Exile (586 BC),” God’s promises endured through the remnant of His people. From these small beginnings, God demonstrated His faithfulness by making a way for His people to return to the land, to rebuild His Temple and to look to the future with hope as they awaited His Messiah. Believers today face the same need for renewal both individually and corporately as we seek to maintain our identity as God’s people in a world that is increasingly hostile to the Lord and His ways. As we study Ezra, we will look for the ways God renews and sustains His people through every season and find hope in the patterns of history He has revealed to us in His Word.
